What were we thinking????

John: We went across the North Yorkshire Moors (hilly-mountainy things) to Whitby today and let me tell you (as well as being "all sheeped out) it was f'ing freezing.  So we marched the Ameri-clan down cliffs and through shops, up steps (yes, we DID count them, I got 201 while other totals ranged from 160 to "I don't care") through churches (11th century -- Karen's note:  this is the 1000s for those history-impaired)) and around Whitby Abbey (7th century -- 600s).  We would have stayed longer, but, after freezing in the wind, the weather changed for the better, and it *snowed*.

See the pics of Mara with her tongue out (while we huddled in a cafe out of the blizzard). We then had fun trying to fight our way through the wind and sleet to the car.  The joy continued as we drove the coast road (yes.... more sheep) and, as we defrosted, I drove straight into the North Sea.... YES! it is TRUE! Ask the others if you don't believe me. The raod litterally dissappeared as the tsumani engulfed the car and we were washed out to sea.... well, okay, not really.... But it WAS a tad exciting for a moment or two. We then pulled into a car park (parking lot, for our US readers) and watch the sea do its dance against the sea wall, the spray covering the car. (and ME.... the dumb ass, had the window down for a clear pic (which I did get, BTW) before being drowned, to everyones amuzement).  So... at 4pm, the lights of the world went out, and we left the coast for home.

  3. We *did* sing the Soupy Sales song "The Ocean is Just a Great Big Bowl of Fish Soup." Especially when John left the car window OPEN after snapping a picture!
